The experience of attending for a treatment
Attending for the first appointment requires that a medical history be taken and at subsequent appointments this may be expanded upon and/or updated as required. All information given during a treatment is treated with complete confidentiality. I maintain an electronic diary for appointments identifying clients by first name or initials only but otherwise no computerised records are kept containing personal information. Paper records are secured in a locked cabinet. I am a member of International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists and hold their recommended therapists insurance cover
Arrival on weekdays (between 8 and 6) – Please allow a few minutes prior to your appointment in order to obtain a free parking permit from me, allowing you to park as a visitor on Cavendish Avenue for the duration of your visit.
Modesty – You will be asked to strip to just your knickers and it is requested that all jewellery be removed. Your modesty will be protected at all times throughout the treatment.
Bathroom – there are individual towels for hand drying and a small laundry basket for their disposal provided on the counter to the left of the washbasin.
Residual essential oil – It is likely that your skin will have residual oil on the surface after the treatment so it is advisable to wear washable casual loose clothing which will not be spoilt should it come into contact with the oil. Similarly a full body massage would include neck massage so oil may get into the hair.
Cancellation Policy – I do not currently charge for cancelled appointments although I reserve the right to review and amend this policy at any time. I do request that should you need to cancel and rebook appointments you give as much notice as possible to allow me to make necessary adjustments to my schedule and procedures.
Payment – Payment can be by cash, cheque or bank transfer. Payments by bank transfer are to be made in advance by prior arrangement.
Below are a series of recommendations to help you in getting the maximum benefit from your treatment.
In order to keep well hydrated and minimise the possibility of a headache it is advisable to drink plenty of water following a treatment (1 – 2 litres per day is the ideal). To maximise the detoxification value of the treatment it is beneficial to avoid drinking caffeine and alcohol for the rest of the day.
It is advisable to rest for the remainder of the day following your treatment avoiding intense exercise.
In order to allow the oils to permeate the skin it is preferable to avoid a shower or bath for several hours.
A light diet is recommended following a treatment in order to not overwork the digestive system.
Please be aware of specific advice regarding the oils used during the treatment, in particular if citrus oils have been used please take special note that they can be phototoxic. If you are advised that a phototoxic oil has been used during the treatment it is essential that exposure to UV, whether from the sun or from a sunbed, is avoided for 12 hours post treatment.
When being treated for muscular aches and pains it is possible that there may be some pain within the few days following a treatment. A course of treatments is generally most effective for this type of condition and with successive treatments any pain experienced following a treatment should lessen.
Following a treatment, on rare occasions some clients can experience symptoms such as nausea, headache, dizziness, frequent urination, and feeling fatigued or drowsy. These are generally a short lived reaction after which generally the client reports feeling better for the treatment. Should you have any particular concerns or questions following an appointment please do not hesitate to contact me via email or mobile. In the highly unlikely event that you experience a severe reaction medical advice should be sought.
